The Apple Touchscreen MacBook is the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, announced on October 28, 2026, with the 14-inch model starting at $2,899, the 16-inch model starting at $3,399, and first shipments on November 6, 2026. It is Apple’s first touch-enabled Mac, uses a tandem OLED screen rated at 2,000 nits of peak brightness, and weighs 3.0 pounds in the 14-inch size.
Apple Touchscreen MacBook 2026 – Introduction
The Apple Touchscreen MacBook is no longer a rumor. On October 28, 2026, Apple announced the first Mac with a screen you can tap, swipe and pinch. It is a MacBook Pro with a PROLED XDR tandem OLED display, sold in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes from $2,899. Pre-orders opened the same day, and the first units ship on November 6, 2026. Apple held back touch on laptops for years. Now it charges the highest launch price in MacBook Pro history for it.
The timing is odd. Worldwide PC shipments fell 20.1% in the third quarter of 2026, and rising memory costs keep pushing laptop prices up. Apple still gained market share. The new model sits above the $1,999 M6 MacBook Pro and adds a premium tier at the top of the range. It also drives a jump in OLED laptop panel demand. Here are the numbers behind the first Apple Touchscreen MacBook.

The Apple Touchscreen MacBook arrived on October 28, 2026 as the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display. The 14-inch version costs $2,899 and the 16-inch version costs $3,399. Both reach buyers on November 6, 2026. The $2,899 entry price is the highest launch price Apple has set for any MacBook Pro, topping the $2,799 it charged for the 17-inch model in 2006. The top build reaches $14,549 with 128GB of memory, 16TB of storage and nano-texture glass.
The display carries the other headline numbers. Peak brightness hits 2,000 nits, up from 1,600 nits on the mini-LED screen it replaces. The OLED panel and a thinner body cut the 14-inch weight to 3.0 pounds, against 3.5 pounds for the non-touch M5 Pro model. Each figure in the table is a launch-day number from Apple. Sales data does not exist yet, and independent battery tests are still to come.

Rumors ran for years, but a firm date appeared only on October 8, 2026, 29 days before release. Apple sent media invitations on October 15 and event invitations on October 19. The “Pro and tell” tagline told watchers that Apple would keep the MacBook Pro name. That ended talk of a MacBook Ultra. The gap between the October 28 announcement and the November 6 release is 9 days.
Apple announced the cheaper M6 model first, on October 27, 10 days before release. The touch model followed a day later. Pre-orders opened in 30 countries and regions, while the M6 model sells in 35. Exactly 10 years before the M6 announcement, on October 27, 2016, Apple introduced the Touch Bar. That was a thin touch strip above the keyboard. The new Apple Touchscreen MacBook makes the whole screen respond to touch.

Four models sit on the price ladder. The 14-inch M5 Pro opens at $2,899. The 16-inch M5 Pro adds $500 for the bigger screen. The M5 Max versions jump to $4,499 for the 14-inch and $4,799 for the 16-inch. Outside the US, Apple lists the 14-inch model at £2,899 in the UK and C$3,999 in Canada. Add 128GB of memory, 16TB of storage and nano-texture glass to the top model and the bill reaches $14,549.
Education buyers pay less on every model. The discount runs $150 on the 14-inch M5 Pro, $200 on the 16-inch M5 Pro, and $300 on both M5 Max models. Apple also offers a lease from $55.99 a month on the $2,899 model through Klarna, and AppleCare+ starts at $149.99 a year. A screen repair under that plan costs $99.

Source: Apple US Store listings, October 28, 2026. Gap and percent figures are our calculation.
The touch premium is $400 in all four matched pairs. Each pair shares the same chip, memory and storage. Apple does not sell touch alone. The $400 buys a bundle: the OLED panel, touch input, the Dynamic Island and a lighter body. Nano-texture glass costs $150 on both lines, so it does not change the gap.
The percentage shrinks as the base price rises. It starts at 16.0% on the 14-inch M5 Pro and falls to 9.1% on the 16-inch M5 Max. The last row compares different machines. The $1,999 M6 model has 16GB of memory and 12 processor cores, while the $2,899 touch model has 24GB and 15 cores. That $900 gap, or 45.0%, buys more than touch.

OLED means each pixel makes its own light, so a dark pixel can turn fully off. That explains the 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, 10 times the 1,000,000:1 rating of the mini-LED screen. Apple calls the panel PROLED XDR and builds it from two stacked OLED layers. Peak brightness rises 25%, from 1,600 to 2,000 nits. Full-screen sustained brightness stays at 1,000 nits on both.
Screen sizes barely move. The 14-inch model stays at 14.2 inches, and the 16-inch model grows from 16.2 to 16.3 inches. The camera area changes more. The notch is gone, replaced by a smaller Dynamic Island that takes less menu bar space. Apple also adds a fingerprint-resistant coating to the touch glass, which matters on a screen people will now touch.

The M6 is Apple’s first chip built on a 2-nanometer process. It debuted in the Mac mini on August 25, 2026. The M5 Pro arrived earlier, on March 3, 2026, and it is the bigger chip. At the starting price, the M6 has 12 cores and the M5 Pro has 15. The 16-inch M5 Pro goes to 18 cores. So the cheaper laptop has the newer chip, and the pricier one has more of it.
Memory and ports follow the same split. The M6 model starts at 16GB and 1TB. Both M5 Pro models start at 24GB and 1TB. The M6 has Thunderbolt 4 ports and supports two external displays. The M5 Pro models have Thunderbolt 5 and support three. Apple pitches the M6 laptop to students and business users, and the touch model to photographers and designers. Only the last column has a touch screen.

Source: IDC, Gartner and Omdia third quarter 2026 PC shipment estimates. IDC figures are preliminary. The Omdia Mac change is our calculation from reported unit counts.
Three research firms count the quarter differently, but all show the same pattern. IDC counted 5.9 million Macs, down 11.3%, in a market that fell 20.1% to 62.7 million units. Apple’s share rose from 8.5% to 9.5% and it stayed fourth, behind Lenovo at 23.8%, HP at 16.5% and Dell at 12.1%. Gartner put Apple at 10.5%, with Mac shipments down only 7.1%.
Gartner counted 55.4 million PCs, down 22.4% from 71.3 million. It blamed DRAM costs that jumped five times year over year in the second quarter, which vendors passed on to buyers. Omdia counted 6.7 million Macs and an 11.7% share. Apple gained share because rivals fell faster, not because Mac units grew. IDC warns that a weaker economy could hurt demand into 2027. The Apple Touchscreen MacBook launches into that market.

Source: Apple fiscal results for the fourth quarter of 2025 and the second and third quarters of 2026.
Mac revenue grew in each quarter shown. It reached $8.72 billion in the September 2025 quarter, up 13%. It slipped to $8.4 billion in March 2026 but still rose 6% on the year. The June 2026 quarter set a record at $10.4 billion, up 28.7% from $8.0 billion a year earlier. Apple’s total revenue that quarter was $109.4 billion.
Two forces drove the jump. The $699 MacBook Neo, Apple’s first budget MacBook, brought in new buyers, and AI demand caused Mac mini shortages. Apple also raised MacBook and iPad prices by up to $200 just before the quarter closed. Apple guided September-quarter growth to 9% to 11% and warned of worse supply limits. It reports Mac sales as one line, so touch sales will not show up on their own.

Counterpoint expects OLED notebook panel shipments to rise 50% in 2026 and 24% in 2027, while Mini-LED panels fall 38% and then 60%. That leaves Mini-LED volume near a quarter of its 2025 level by 2027. In April, the same firm forecast only 33% OLED growth. It credits Apple’s OLED MacBook Pro as a main driver. Over 2024 to 2030, it projects OLED notebook panel shipments growing 26% a year and revenue 35% a year.
Omdia projects OLED notebook display revenue at $4 billion in 2026, led by demand for the MacBook Pro. It sees $11.5 billion by 2033. Apple uses a hybrid OLED panel built on oxide TFT and RGB tandem technology, and Samsung Display supplies it. Omdia expects hybrid OLED to hold 12.6% of notebook OLED shipments in 2026 and 89.5% by 2033. Every Apple Touchscreen MacBook sold adds to that curve.
