Indian-American Electoral 2026 show that Democrat Pia Dandiya won Florida’s 22nd District 51.9% to 48.1%, four Indian-American House incumbents were projected to win re-election, and Republican Vivek Ramaswamy lost the Ohio governor’s race 52.3% to 44.4%. Of 57 Indian-American candidates in 22 states, Amish Shah led Arizona’s 1st District 52.5% to 45.5% with votes still being counted.
US Indian-American Electoral 2026 – Introduction
US Indian-American Electoral 2026 show a strong night for Democrats and a hard night for the two Republicans on statewide ballots. At least 57 Indian-American candidates faced voters on November 3, 2026, across 22 states. They ran for Congress, governor, attorney general, mayor and state legislatures. Democrats won control of the House and the Senate, and Indian-American Democrats rode the same wave in most races. This report lists every confirmed result, vote share and margin.
The headline number barely moved. Six Indian Americans sat in the House this term, and five are confirmed for the next one. Two current members lost primaries months before the general election. Counting continues in Arizona, California, Washington and Los Angeles, so every figure here is unofficial and reflects reporting through November 5, 2026. Percentages show the share of expected votes counted where sources published it. Fast-counting states such as Florida and Virginia are nearly complete, while slow-counting West Coast states are not. Treat every margin as preliminary until counties certify their totals this month, and states certify later on.

Dandiya beat Republican Casey Askar for a redrawn seat. Subramanyam beat Republican Dave Beckwith by 24.8 points. Khanna beat Republican Ritesh Tandon by 41.2 points. Jayapal beat Republican Nirav Sheth by 75.6 points. Bera led Republican Robb Tucker by 14.2 points in his redrawn district. Shah led former NFL kicker Jay Feely by 7.0 points in an open Arizona seat.
The votes-counted column matters. West Coast counts were about half done for Khanna, Bera and Jayapal, so their shares can move. One report listed Khanna at 72.0% with 61,366 votes, while NBC showed 70.6% at the time above. Dandiya’s race was 99% in, which makes her margin the most reliable in the table. NBC had not projected Shah’s race when this report was written.

Ramaswamy trailed Democrat Amy Acton by 7.9 points with 98% of the vote in. Komatireddy, a former federal prosecutor, trailed Attorney General Letitia James by 20.1 points with 92% counted. Both Republicans lost by wide margins. Miller won by 29.5 points with 78% counted, on the same ticket as Governor Wes Moore.
Raman leads the Los Angeles mayor’s race by 3.34 points with 72% counted. Decision Desk HQ called the race for her, but the AP had not. Los Angeles County plans daily count updates through November 13 and certification on November 27. A 3.34-point lead with 28% of ballots outstanding can still change, so treat this result as preliminary.

The scorecard counts only candidates that major outlets named. House candidates went undefeated on Election Day, with five wins and one lead. Statewide candidates went 1 for 3, and both losses were Republicans. The Los Angeles mayor’s race and Pooja Sethi’s Texas House race are leads, not wins. The state legislature row counts 6 named winners and may undercount, because most outlets did not publish a full list of down-ballot losses.
The totals show 12 wins, 3 leads and 2 losses among tracked candidates. That is a partial record, since 57 candidates ran. Many local candidates have no published result yet. Check county and state election offices for certified totals before treating any single count as final.

Two members left before November. Krishnamoorthi lost the Illinois Senate primary to Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton by 6.0 points. Thanedar lost his Detroit primary by 3.8 points, with Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Rashida Tlaib backing his opponent. Bera, Khanna, Jayapal and Subramanyam return. The group keeps its size of 6 only if Shah’s lead holds.
Dandiya and Shah both won or led competitive open seats, not safe ones. Dandiya is a former teacher and Harlem high school principal who was born in Palm Beach County. Shah is an emergency physician and former Arizona legislator. If both hold, the next House will have 5 or 6 Indian-American members, with two newcomers replacing two long-serving members.

Dandiya won by 11,161 votes out of 294,933 counted. Florida redrew the district in May to include parts of Palm Beach, Broward, Hendry and Collier counties. She carried Broward by about 23,000 votes and Palm Beach by about 10,000, according to NBC figures. Those two counties gave her roughly 33,000 votes of margin.
Askar carried Collier and Hendry counties. The statewide totals imply his combined lead there was about 22,000 votes, though that is our calculation and not a published figure. The district’s 3.8-point margin makes it the closest confirmed Indian-American House result. Dandiya will be sworn in with the new House on January 3, 2027.

Source: Hindustan Times (2018); Gulf News (2020); Office of Rep. Shri Thanedar, house.gov (2024); NBC News (2026).
The House group grew from 4 in 2018 to 6 in 2024, a gain of 2 seats in three cycles. All 4 incumbents won in 2018 and 2020. The 2018 cycle saw a record 12 Indian-American House candidates, yet only the four incumbents won. The 2026 count dipped to 5 confirmed because two incumbents lost primaries, and Dandiya filled only one of the two vacancies so far.
If Shah wins, the 2026 total returns to the 2024 peak of 6. The pool of candidates grew: 57 ran in 2026 across 22 states. Every Indian-American House member confirmed in 2026 is a Democrat.

Sethi’s open seat covers parts of Austin and Bee Cave. She worked as chief of staff to the previous holder, Representative Vikki Goodwin. Her race ran alongside a statewide fight over posts that targeted Asian students at the University of Texas. Republican Railroad Commission nominee Bo French posted the images on September 13, and Senator John Cornyn and House Speaker Dustin Burrows condemned them.
French lost to Democrat Jon Rosenthal 52.5% to 45.6%, a 6.9-point margin. Senate nominee Ken Paxton lost to James Talarico 55.1% to 43.0%, a 12.1-point margin. These statewide results came from a Democratic wave and do not isolate any single cause. The table lists them because Indian-American voters and candidates figured in the campaign coverage around the French posts.
2026 Indian-American Members and Democratic Control of Congress: How Large Is the Caucus?

| Share of Democratic seats (at 220 seats) | About 2.3% |
| Share of 435 seats if Shah wins | 1.38% |
Source: Associated Press; NBC News; our calculation.
Democrats won control of both chambers, so every confirmed Indian-American House member joins the majority. The AP counts more than 220 Democratic House seats and 53 Democratic Senate seats on preliminary results, with some races uncalled. Five members equal 1.15% of the 435-seat House. They equal about 2.3% of a 220-seat Democratic caucus, and the share falls as the caucus grows.
Shah’s win would lift the share to 1.38% of the House. No Indian-American candidate won a Senate seat in the results reviewed for this report. Indian-American members in the majority gain committee influence, and the community’s House presence stays small in raw numbers. Final seat counts will change this table once the AP completes its tallies.
